Cadbury 5 Star partners with Zapak to launch 5 Star Indian Online League

28 May, 2009
Cadbury 5 Star, in association with Zapak.com, has launched an online cricket tournament, called ‘5 Star Indian Online League, available at 5StarIOL.Zapak.com. According to Zapak, the league will go on for four weeks till mid June 2009 and will offer prizes worth Rs 1 crore to the winners.

The 5 Star Indian Online League will have eight city leagues that a player needs to choose from just like the IPL (Indian Premier League). After the user chooses his league, he will have to play two cricket games -- bowling and batting.

Fifty high-scorers from each city will come to nearest Zapak Gameplex and the top 11 will make it to the city team. The total score of top 11 gamers will constitute the final city score and two teams of 11 players each will compete against each other for the finale.

The winners of the 5 Star Indian Online League will win a seat on the Board of Zapak Cricket in India. This Board will control game ratings, write game reviews for every game, select game of the week, select daily poll, pick hot cricketing topic of the week, test new cricket games, and do expert blogging along with Krish Srikanth.

Sanjay Purohit, director, marketing, Cadbury India, has said, “Cricket is on everybody’s mind nowadays and we wanted to reach out to our target group in the digital space via this cricket fever. This property together with Zapak.com will cater to all cricket lovers and help them experience a never before cricket league.”

“India is a cricket frenzy nation where cricket is considered a religion. And we at Zapak try to take this fever to yet another level by giving the game a platform on the internet,” Rohit Sharma, chief operating officer, Zapak Digital Entertainment, has said. “We think 5 Star Indian Online League will get people involved in their favourite sport and enjoy with the current cricket league fever.”
