Janaagraha , a Bangalore-based NGO (non-profit organization), has partnered with Tata Tea to launch JaagoRe.com , as a part of its Jaago Re One Billion Votes campaign that aims to get every citizen of India register and exercise the right to vote. According to Janaagraha, JaagoRe.com has so far attracted about 71,000 people who have registered on the site.
The Jaago Re campaign, launched in September 2008, hopes to register around four million voters from India's top 35 cities before the April 2009 elections. From next year onwards, the campaign plans to target Tier II cities and eventually rural India. “Penetration will be a problem in reaching rural areas and hence we are looking to partner with constituencies to urge voters to register through us online,” Jasmine Shah, campaign coordinator, Jaago Re, has told AlooTechie.
The campaign is being promoted through TV, radio and online commercials. Janaagraha has also taken up some on-road initiatives. “We have started an outreach program from 1st November 2008 where talks will be organized in more than 200 colleges and companies from 11 key cities in India,” informed Shah. St Xavier’s Mumbai, St Joseph’s Bangalore, Infosys and Wipro are some of the colleges and companies that have already joined the initiative.

I WANT TO REGISTER MY VOTER ID.
Hi, I am serving in Indian Airforce. Never I vote in any election. As an Indian I want to vote. But I don't have voter ID card. I have ration card. How can I make my voter ID card ? Plz help me.
I am not quite sure if you can get 4million users when the website does not work very well. the maps are not correct, the user path is broken at a lot of places and it is very hard for even a regular internet savvy person to use.
we tried this in our office and not one of us could complete the user registration.
I guess they should do some more work on usability before they turn the marketing taps on.
