MapmyIndia offers maps and navigation service for GPS phones

21 May, 2008
MapmyIndia has launched iNav, a GPS (global positioning system)-based navigation solution that offers maps and navigation software for mobile phones in India. Earlier, the service was available on internet, car devices and Blackberry phones.

According to MapmyIndia, iNav locates where the user is and helps him reach his destination by providing turn-by-turn graphical map guidance. The service also allows users to search for a locality, street or point of interest.

“Our vision is to make maps and navigation recognized as an integral part of the country's basic infrastructure. After making maps freely available on the internet via MapmyIndia.com, and then launching MapmyIndia Navigator for in-car navigation, with iNav we hope GPS navigation can benefit all mobile phone users across the country,” Rohit Verma, director, CE Info Systems, which owns MapmyIndia, has said. Google Maps (read:free) + GPS works just fine. Though i've been propagating mapmyindia's PC maps it would take a lot for me to pay a subscription for GPS.

And BTW, works much much better on Windows Mobile.

I wonder why the iNav + crapberry combo didn't exactly being about a consumer revolution....hee hee haw haw haw! :)

The pricing is neat, and considering that not many will find the car GPS system quite affordable. Does MapMyIndia see this new product affecting the sales of its car GPS service product I wonder.
