According to LD Sharma, Shoogloo generated a top line revenue of over Rs 40 lakh in May 2008. “Just with a small team of around five people around a couple of months ago, we are today more than 15 people,” Sharma has added.

Great going, interesting to see the the CPA model come to life in India. I think this has a long way to go, but interesting to see some folks make a break on it. Rather than question the numbers, like to see if we can foster more of a debate on which are the industries more likely to accept the CPA model in India. Any ideas?

There's so much to affiliate marketing then just SEO based sites. Affiliate marketing is Performance based marketing & involves : CPL & CPA. So whether LD did a Lead or a Sale that's an action & he must have such agreements with his merchants whereby he'll be paid on Leads / Sale.

Unlike other marketing activities like CPM, CPC, Affiliate marketing is totally performance based & its here to stay.

an Affiliate can not only drive traffic for his merchants thru his / her website but also by doing CPA based PPC campaigns, E-mail Marketing, Sub-affiliating the model, creating a whitelable, offering feeds & more such methods.

LD pls get ur site checked & corrected....it lacks the quality but I really appreciate & congratulate u for your efforts

Above all, how many of these actions / leads or what ever were acquired by the paid marketing methods. Doesn't matter if someone is asking of 70k transactions or 700k transactions, the main question is how much of the real cash got invested into acquiring those figures.

To get these 40 Lakhs (as claimed) how many rupees have been invested?

Good Job L.D.!

Affiliate publishing is a different ball game all together and I am sure that L.D. Sharma understands this business really well.

As far as actions are considered it is advertiser's job to define it keeping in mind ROI calculation and expected conversion ratio. It may or may not be a win-win situation for all the publishers (affiliates)but we keep getting deals where affiliates get paid on visitors (only during certain time of day and some fixed location).

Shoogloo has a team of 5 which is a huge team considering the nature of the business. There are individuals running the same business with a turnover above 1 million $.

Sharmaji,

You are one of the few in the Indian online family who just love to throw numbers around whether it is about the number of domains you have acquired or actions delivered.

What Sunil says is right..put your websites in place before talking about big numbers.

LD must have really antagonised a lot of people here.

A lot of comments r pretty judgemental.
I really do not understand -Affiliate marketing is a lot about redirecting SEO traffic, what's wrong with that?
People must be really fond of his work that they have actually taken the pains to go to all his sites and find the broken links.
Also they quoting from previous interviews earlier.
Somebody is actually maintaining a personal file of LD...
Are these proffessionalquestions or personal ire?
If the numbers are even 25% of claimed, its good stuff.Leads or actions....

Cheers and way to go!

I would like to clarify few points raised by various people.

1. We are an online marketing company and not necessarily that we are only having these few websites in our portfolio. May be we have not updated it for long. We have than 100 websites running for various clients / category specific. We specialise in SEM and we do CPA deals. We need to see all this from Affiliate Marketing point of view and we have seen this work on ground while we achieved it. dgm India today has great merchants / advertisers on board and they include clients like Yatra, Makemytrip, Cleartrip, Travelguru, Shine.com, Citibank, Deutsche Bank, Barclays, BharatMatrimony, and many more like these. All these clients are on CPA model through dgm network. By transactions in an affiliate network means a confirmed action, which may be defined as confirmed sale / or a confirmed lead which is validated by the client.

2. My idea here was to show that Affiliate Marketing does work and we have proved it. Our idea is not make any ridiculous claims but this is what we did in May 08.

3. About transactions in Travel Sector etc, I am sure MMT / Yatra / Cleartrip can comment as to how many we did for them. Currently for Yatra, we do through dgm, through CJ and through their self managed affiliate program. We only do CPA deals and we have clients from US as well.

4. As far banks leads are concerned, it is true that banks take highest security levels for doing business online and you would see that it took a long time even for dgm to have few merchants integrated on to the system. The reason for that is because in most of the cases, banks have various security checks before they allow third party tracking on their pages and as a result, most of the banks today allow third parties to generate leads on separate landing pages (see in case of ICICI Banks / HDFC Banks) and these leads are generated by their respective agencies. Through dgm network, we have only seen two bank (Citibank and Deutsche Bank) where leads are generated on their own websites.

5. On a personal note, if someone comments that Alootechie favours us then it is all baseless. I think this is a public forum and everyone here is allowed. Through this link (http://www.alootechie.net/node/233), i am sure anyone can send their PR and if Alootechie thinks it worth publishing, they will do it. If you are so bold writing these good comments, why don't you share your contact details so that the whole world knows who writes what.

6. ....and we have more ACTION lined up in the coming weeks!!!!! So please keep watching this space!!!!!

Hi L.D.,

You admit that a confirmed action could mean not just "sale" but also "leads".

Can you tell us out of 70000 actions claimed by you, how many are "Sale" and how many are "Leads"?

This is because it is misleading to just mention "actions". There is a HUGE difference between a "confirmed lead" and a "confirmed sale".
The gap (no . of impressions or searches or visitor clicks) between a Sale and a Lead (I call it "Affiliate Traffic Gap") is enormous.

So you have to be clear when mentioning "actions"..how many leads and how many sales. Else, don't create PR noise.

Cheers,
Rajesh K.

i fully agree with "Sanjay Vasu"

Alootechie also used their newletter subscribers email id to send spam mail to promote affiliate campaigns.

Wake Rajesh, i assume 80% + alootechie subscribers are experts and not ordinary net surfers who will click links forwarded as spam mails several times.

Yes there are so many other good things happening in Indian internet industry. Rajesh donot be bonded platform PR person of a few internet companies, all top net companies covered in all other leading media, you must cover which are left out at other media and worth writing about those.

Yes you have created alootechie but the its value is because of readership and subscribers so please donot spoil it.

Good luck

Dear LD,

Please don't pay attention to all the comments questioning the figures. To put and end to the speculation, either release a note that Alootechie wrongly quoted the figures or please answer some of these questions.

1. Barring one, all other sites you have displayed as your portfolio are your own sites. Most of these sites are incomplete (I guess all. I lost my patience seeing your sites). They are up and running for the hake of it. Do you and your team of 15 full time into visiting and clicking ads on your own sites ? (increasing team size would mean more revenues)
2. Links on most your sites are dead (href=#). Are there real people visting your sites to see dead links?
3. Most of your sites under 'Money, Finance and Insurance' are a one click gateway to apnaloan. Is apnaloan THE client paying CPA for diverting users?
4. Bookflights is all yatra. Are there enough fools to come to your site and get diverted to yatra instead of directly going to yatra. Does't stop here. You say they not only visit but also give you CPA revenues. Same for other sites in Travel section.
5. In one of your interviews here on Alootechie, you said - you have spoken to top bankers and seen in UK what problems banks face when leads are generated out of banks server. It seems you were faking in that interview because you are doing exactly that by diverting users to some other site which is out of banks server.

Without going any further (lot more), can we all request you to please come up with some real original (that's not as cheap) stuff.

And please, this time don't ask some of your friends to write another essay elaborating your journey from Himachal. We all know and respect you for what you have achieved before.

First of all whats the defition of this action that needs to be made clear, an action could be a valid visitor.

I dont know how L.D. Sharma and Rajesh Barnawal related....hmmm. need to figure it out.

Everytime Mr. LD Sharma sneezes his way beyond reality numbers...Alootechie loves to publish it.

There are better things to publish Rajesh...I dont care if you post this comment or not. This was meant for you.

Shoogloo "claims" 70000 trabsactions...
Some queries:
1. does a "lead" classify as "action" for them?
2. 40lac is "TOP LINE" revenues... for 70k transactions , thats average Rs 57 per transaction "top line revenue"..
whats the bottomline???
3. if 20000 are for otas/airines, 50000 transactions are from WHICH catgeory? Their portfolio: http://onlinemarketing.co.in/ourportfolio.html doesn't give confidence

My hypothesis: Bulk of so called "Actions" are just "leads".
