VASJobs.com offers a niche job portal for the mobile VAS industry

by Satrajit Sen

VASJobs.com is a vertical job portal that focuses on the mobile value added services jobs available across the world. The job portal claims to have already attracted about 1000 jobs listings under 29 categories and about 7000 job applicants since its launch in February 2009.

“Niche jobs in upcoming fields like mobile and telecom VAS do get lost at bigger job portals,” Sidhartha Bezbora, founder, VASJobs.com, has told AlooTechie. “With the kind of growth in the VAS industry and the dropping ARPUs (average revenue per user) of operators, the demand for VAS is consistently going up.”

“Because of this, new innovations, services and technology usage will lead to better and newer career opportunities in this space. Hence, we want to leverage upon this requirement and provide a better job platform,” Sidhartha Bezbora has added. According to Bezbora, the Indian mobile VAS industry is expected to reach Rs 18,000 crore revenue by 2012.

Currently, VASJobs.com is being operated by a team of three people based in Guwahati, Assam. The company plans to earn its revenue by introducing paid job postings; advertising in the ‘Featured Employers & Jobs’ section where it will charge the companies for putting their logos and premium jobs in the portal; and by selling delegate passes of global mobile events at a discounted rate.

VASJobs.com is using social media to promote the site and has created a LinkedIn Networking Group which has attracted more than 1100 professionals from the telecom and mobile VAS industry. Besides, the job portal has also created profiles and fan pages on Twitter and Facebook.

Could some comment on how would niche portals compete with existing job portals in terms of revenue and market sustainability?

Dear Nikhil,
Your profile looks ideal for a WAP portal manager role. Check out the openings at VASJobs.com and alternately try getting in touch with the Telecom operators and some of the VAS providers.

Also you can look at a list of VAS companies in India and write to them directly.

Hope this is helpful. For career guidance write to me.

Best of luck

I stay in Delhi and am very much inclined to make my career in VAS industry. My current 2 year job profile in online industry matches the role & responsibilities of managing the contents of a WAP portal.

Would anybody be kind enogh to let me know from where i can start to venture into this promising industry.

Thanks in advance

This is great job portal for VAS professionals. Thank you very much to Mr. Sidhartha Bezbora for starting the niche job portal.

I hope they also start a forum to discuss about VAS market and exchange views.
