Viadeo-ApnaCircle acquires social networking site Unyk

14 October, 2009
France-based professional networking site Viadeo has acquired Canada-based social networking site Unyk, which claims to have over 16 million users. Viadeo earlier acquired an Indian business networking site ApnaCircle.com. Post acquisition, the company will have a combined membership of over 25 million users.

“This acquisition will help us to grow Indian market organically. This will also get us critical mass, while providing greater usability and value to our members through Unyk’s smart address book and synchronization technology,” Yogesh Bansal, founder and CEO, ApnaCircle and a member of Viadeo board of directors, has said.

“Our strategy continues to be to develop networks throughout Europe and emerging countries and with this acquisition I believe we have significantly strengthened our market position and offering, particularly throughout Mexico, Brazil and India, and now have a North American presence, with 4 million members throughout Canada, the US and Mexico,” Dan Serfaty, CEO, Viadeo, has said.

the only way to be ahead in the increasing online social networking space is to have more subscribers. either you pull them or procure them. i think Viadeo is agressively looking at increasing the subscriber base and by doing the right thing that is acquiring the local social networking sites in different geographical regions.

It has been our experience that social networking sites build a community of interested individuals. The response time expecially for feedback apropos new product launches for corporates is quick and timely.
