VR Group launches hotels comparison site GhumiChale.com
16 July, 2008
VR Group India has launched GhumiChale.com, an online hotels comparison site that claims to compare over 900,000 deals across the globe. According to the company, GhumiChale currently has over two million hotel pictures with maps and 2.4 million reviews.
While talking about the revenue model, GhumiChale has said, “Presently, we earn per click revenue from hotels. In future it would be a combination of CPC (cost per click) and CPA (cost per acquisition) and then affiliate revenue. These three streams would be good enough for the portal to be profitable.”

Hi GhumiChale,
Thanks for your response but would like to disagree with you on few points.
1) all the big players mentioned by you and also mentioned by all others are offering this whitelabel as additional service apart form lot of other services they are offering through internet. Also they give due credit to its service providers, eg. Indya.com Travel clearly says, Powered by Zoomtra. IXIGO, even in their press release mentioned that apart from their own inventory they are using hotelscombined.com inventory.
2) When we, users, hear that there is a Indian Hotel Camparison site ( your name sounds you want to restrict to Indian market :), on a lighter note, not even in the south India, GhumiChalo wont make any sense, you cant ignore south indian online market as its very huge), we expect the site to compare all the indian hotels.Like you to compare makemytrip.com, yatra.com, cleartrip.com and all other hotel inventory players in India rather than providing a white label solution of a global player like hotelscombined.com
3)This white label solution wont do any good for indian market as most of the sites you(sorry hotelscombined.com) compare selling their inventory in foreign currencies, why should someone like me go and buy a room in Agra by paying in $ when there are other cheap indian alternatives are available.
I appreciate, you building your own technology to compare all the indian hotel inventory and coming up with something similer by brining all the Indian specific Hotel inventory under one roof.
Eventhough you might have learned from the same class, its always better to understand the market and try to solve the real problems which are faced by users rather blindly doing what you learned from the class :)
Virgin Mobile is a different story altogether, they are doing it just becasue a 100% foreign telecom entity cant operate in India, so they are offering the service through their indian partner. Like bharati - walmart..... thats nothing to do with the online space.
We are looking for indian companies to come forward with innovative ideas which really solves the common man's problems in India rather than forcing us to do business with international sites like you do.
I hope you will take this in a positive note.
Many thanks for listening....
Dear Rajesh @ Alootechie : Thanks a lot for the mention of GhumiChale in your esteemed blog.
Dear Rajesh Srivastav : Thanks for your intelligent comment & understanding the fact that using an affiliate feed is no bad thing.
Dear Nikhil, Guest & Geo : Thanks for your comments but there's really no point in creating something which is already created. Even big players like AOL (http://travel.comcast.net/), Comcast (http://travel.comcast.net/), Indya.com (http://travel.indya.com/), in.com etc. uses various whitelable / affiliate solution (From Kayak, Zoomtra & wego.com respectively). In a class the same teacher teaches the same subject to 30-40 students but some come first & some last, It totally depends on how you use the knowledge / technology / whitelable. You would surely see more value adds to ghumichale.com in near future, thanks for your valuable inputs.
One more thing even Virgin Mobile is actually a whitelabled version of Tata Indicom :-)

Rajesh/Nikhil,
You are absoultly right ! This is just a white label solution of hotelscombined.com which lot of indian travel sites are using currently including IXIGO.
What is the big deal about building a website using somebody's else inventory and technology ?
There is another website which is doing the same is http://www.chaklo.com.
As mentioend by Guest above, even samll time players like http://www.travelgoogy.com provides the same service for its users in additions to the other services which they are offering.
Just didnt understand why people makes big fuzz out of a whitelabel solution which can be build with less than one hour effort ! Do they think that all out here are fools ? This is just like, building a site and put a google search box there and claiming i am doing all the seraches :) its just like that... :)
At least GhumiChale.com, Should have the common sense of adding some value to the Website. Just they should have looked at what even the small travel players are doing. I have found the same back end system used in many webistes, but many of them has used this as a value add only; Lot many examples like www.travelgoogy.com can be sited; I hope they will at least look at this!
Yes results are from Hotelcombined. Just see the view source of http://www.ghumichale.com/ you will find -

Ixigo is also using the feed of Hotelscombined. Try using www.in.com of TV-18 Group and you'll see feed of wego.com there. So big players are using it. I don't think using an affiliate feed is bad but its how you brand is important. Ixigo is doing a fair job....lets see how these guys use it

Nothing New!
This comment is to the guys at Ghumi Chale:
Is there something in GC beyond using Hotel's Combined's idea as your own and installing their service.
Like what is the KILLER idea here?

From what I figured you can create a clone using Hotel Combined's White Label in like, an hours time.
