Yahoo India named official online partner of International Cricket Council

18 February, 2009
Yahoo India and International Cricket Council (ICC) have signed an agreement under which Yahoo will create an exclusive online property, ICCEvents.Yahoo.com where users will have access to exclusive images, videos, interviews and player chats around all major ICC events, including the ICC World, Twenty20, ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, to be held in the next three years.

“This partnership gives us access to never before experienced content in the online domain. It also demonstrates our commitment to cricket and addresses the needs of internet audiences with top quality coverage of major cricketing events. As a global brand, Yahoo will attract more users worldwide and contribute towards the growth of cricket,” Gopal Krishna, vice president and head of audience, emerging markets, Yahoo, has said.

Haroon Lorgat, chief executive officer, ICC, has added, “In today’s technology-driven world, this is a massive boost for the ICC and cricket. Not only do we get another vibrant and committed commercial partner on board but this deal also ensures cricket fans will benefit from Yahoo's already established popularity and enormous reach across the cyber world.”

Yahoo has also launched Cricket.Yahoo.com, a global cricket website which will provide a complete resource on the game with updates, images, match schedules and player profiles. According to the company, the new website will serve as a one-stop destination on the history of cricket, updates on ongoing cricket tourneys, as well up-to-date statistics for cricketers.

Yeah I like that Yahoo is moving forward as well and you dont always only hear Google buying stuff. I like Yahoo and hope that the innovation is within the company big enough to compete with Google very soon, it will be good for all of us. JohnV

I agree, nice and big deal - a move forward for Yahoo. I think their huge problem before has been over-thinking the Google competition and always focusing on that not their own success. I hope the superb company is at last over it and moves forward!

I think yahoo has completely gone bonkers. I have been unable to understand their strategy - they are all out in the market with big hoardings, primetime adverstizements and radio promotions.

Trying to sell inferior product with marketing overdose?

WoW,

It's a Googly.

That's what I call a Big Deal.

This is what is expected out of yahoo, instead of focusing on whether -What money will be offered from Microsoft(for acquisition) or how to compete with google.

This tie will definetly go places.

Hope yahoo carries it's name & delivers the quality stuff as ever.

Just one recommendation - The new portal has to work on their Video Section heavily(The 1st hand experience has not been that good).

Way to Go Yahoo!

Cheers
