Yahoo India R&D to organise Open Hack Day India on 14-15 Feb in Bangalore

10 February, 2009
Yahoo India Research and Development is organising its Open Hack Day India on 14th and 15th February in Bangalore where the company will open its products, platforms and APIs (application programming interface) for developers and allow them to build on Yahoo UI libraries and product APIs with their great ideas.

According to the company, this is the 5th Open Hack Day being organized by Yahoo worldwide. The event had its beginning in 2006 in Sunnyvale (US) and since then Yahoo has taken it globally to London, Taiwan and for the second time in Bangalore. David Filo, co-founder of Yahoo, will kick off the 2nd 'Open Hack Day India'.

Hack Days started as an internal event that brought Yahoo developers together and expanded into regular events in offices around the globe. The purpose of Open Hack Day is to celebrate, share, and bring developers from all over the country together to create cool new applications.

Open Hack Day is a two-day event that commences with a Developer workshop with sessions led by Yahoos and progresses to an overnight Hack Camp with food, music, concluding with demos, judging and awards.

Sharad Sharma, CEO, Yahoo India R&D, has said, “Open Hack Day celebrates innovation and demonstrates our commitment to open technologies and opportunities for developers. It is fun but also educational, practical and is a key element of Yahoo's ongoing strategy.”

Yahoo India R&D recently held Hack U events for the first time in India at IIT-Delhi and IIT-Mumbai. These events gave innovative young thinkers the opportunity to use Yahoo open technology to develop and showcase their dream applications.
