Yahoo posts 43% growth in net income at $598 million for 2009

Yahoo.com has posted a growth of 43 per cent in its net income at $598 million for 2009, as compared with $419 million recorded a year ago. Revenues declined by 10 per cent at $6.46 billion for 2009, as compared with $7.20 billion reported for 2008.

In the fourth quarter ended December 2009, Yahoo recorded a net income of $153 million, as compared to a net loss of $303 million a year ago. Revenues declined by 4 per cent to $1.73 billion during Dec 2009 ended quarter from $1.80 billion posted for the fourth quarter of the previous year.

“The fourth quarter marked a strong finish to 2009, which was a transformative year for Yahoo,” Carol Bartz, CEO, Yahoo, has said. “We beat the high end of our revenue guidance, saw demand for premium display advertising improve significantly, and grew owned and operated search advertising revenue sequentially for the first time since the third quarter of 2008. Our business has positive momentum and we feel good as we head into 2010.”
