YouTube India goes live, ties-up with local content partners

07 May, 2008
Video sharing site YouTube, which is owned by Google, has launched YouTube.co.in, a local site specific to Indian viewers. YouTube has also signed up a number of local partners including Eros Entertainment, Rajshri Films, IIFA (International Indian Film Academy), Ministry of Tourism, IIT Delhi, NDTV, UTV, Zoom TV, India TV and KrishCricket, to distribute their content through the YouTube India site.

“We're very happy to be able to bring you a localised version of YouTube for India, its diaspora and really anyone who is passionate about India. This site contains all the videos found on YouTube's global site, YouTube.com, except we've applied an "Indian lens" to the content, meaning that the video charts you see reflect what Indians are watching now, the featured videos are programmed to cater to an Indian audience, and we've signed up dozens of local partners who are proud to distribute their content through YouTube,” Sakina Arsiwala, international manager, YouTube, writes on the YouTube India blog.

Steve Chen, CTO and co-founder, YouTube, has added, “For a culture that is steeped both in video and in storytelling, and where everyone has a voice - YouTube India will not only offer Indian users more relevant content but also provide a platform to share India’s unique and diverse culture and lifestyle with the largest online video community in the world.”
