YouTube invites users to post video petition to end world hunger

26 September, 2008
YouTube, Will.i.am, and non-profit organizations like Oxfam, GCAP, Save the Children and Comic Relief, have launched a new channel, called In My Name on YouTube , where users from around the world can upload a video stating their name, home country, and a message for their government about the need to meet the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The videos can be uploaded till 1st November 2008.

At the end of the program on November 1st 2008, a mash-up of the most powerful submissions from around the world will be broadcast directly to global leaders at the United Nations General Assembly, as proof that global citizens are holding them to their commitment to create a better world for everyone. The video will also be broadcast at a YouTube Live, YouTube's first-ever live event, on 22nd November 2008.

The initiative is a part of the global efforts to raise awareness around the UN Millennium Development Goals, which involve eight time-bound, measurable goals -- end poverty and hunger, universal education, gender equality, child health, maternal health, combat HIV/AIDS, environmental sustainability, and global partnership. World leaders have come together in New York City in US to discuss the goals that they set in 2000 to combat global poverty by 2015.
